Day of Schedule

9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Registration, Light Breakfast, and Childcare Check-in

9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Typical Learning Profile of a Student with Down Syndrome

10:00 a.m. - Noon Reading Interventions for Learners with Down Syndrome

Noon - 12:45 p.m. Lunch and round-table discussion.

12:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Behavioral Supports in the Classroom

Topics Include

  • general learning profile of students with Down syndrome
  • strategies to support learners who are not yet reading or beginning to read
  • strategies to support reading comprehension
  • behavioral supports in the classroom


Teachers and support staff may attend at no cost.

The cost to attend is $10 for parents.

Childcare is available for $10. Meals included. Please indicate in survey if your child has any special dietary restrictions.

Workshop Leaders

Kristin Burnette is a TDSN Board Member and has been training parents and teachers on supporting learners with Down syndrome through TDSN for many years. Kristin is a nationally board certified special education teacher. She received her Masters of Arts in Special Education, Low Incidence Disabilities, from East Carolina University and is currently in the PhD program for special education at UNC-Greensboro.

Holly Moses is a a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Licensed Psychological Associate and Licensed Professional Counselor with 17 years experience in applied behavior analysis and behavior therapy. Learn more about Holly by visiting: http://www.crossvinegroup.com/about
