We all love the joy that a new baby brings to a family, don't we? When that baby is diagnosed with Down syndrome, the joy is often mixed with shock and worry for the future. Your donation provides support to new families and helps joy prevail.
New parents look to the Triangle Down Syndrome Network (TDSN) for information on Down syndrome and a connection to other families in our community. All new babies receive a Welcome Baby Bag containing gifts and resources. We offer home or in hospital visits and help families as they navigate area resources. New parents are connected to mentor parents that can provide ongoing advice and a listening ear.
You are also impacting expectant families with your donation. Advancements in prenatal testing are resulting in parents finding out earlier and more often that their unborn child has Down syndrome. Recently, we have seen a steady increase in requests for our Parental Information Packets and consultation visits from a staff social worker. In the past year, we have increased outreach efforts to the healthcare community and made a commitment to help any family from North Carolina that reaches out for support.
We are helping more families than ever! This is great news, but also presents funding challenges.
What impact will your donation make?
You will bring help to families as they welcome a new baby or prepare for the birth of their child with Down syndrome. In 2018, we will add a Family Support Specialist to meet the ever increasing need. Additionally, our New Parent Handbook will be updated, translated into Spanish and reprinted this year.
You are so important to our New and Expectant Parent Support program. We could not provide the high level of service to these families without you. Thank you for your past support. We hope you will continue to support new and expectant families.
Our goal for this spring appeal is to raise $12,500 by June 30th. These funds are crucial to meet the increased needs while maintaining our commitment to meeting the needs of every new family.
